PayPal Holdings Inc. is an American multinational financial technology company that enables digital and mobile payments. The firm’s products include PayPal, PayPal Credit, Venmo and Braintree. The firm has its corporate headquarters in San Jose, California, with PayPal Worldwide Operations run out of La Vista, Nebraska. The platform has more than 400 million active account holders across more than 200 markets around the world, as of December 2021. The firm was founded in 1998 as Confinity. PayPal online payment and transfer solutions enable consumers and merchants to receive money in more than 100 currencies, and the firm processes almost 37,000 transactions a minute, with a total payment volume of $1.2 trillion annually. PayPal was owned by eBay from 2002 until its spin-off in 2015. The firm essentially facilitates a secure and fast way for consumers to exchange funds with merchants and allows customer accounts to be linked to a variety of funding sources, such as a traditional bank account, credit and debit cards, or other stored value products. The company offers small business solutions such as PayPal invoicing, and also enables consumer person-to-person payment solutions through its website and mobile application, Venmo and Xoom.
