SushiSwap is essentially a software built on Ethereum, seeking to incentivise users to operate a platform for the buying and selling of various cryptoassets. SushiSwap originally emerged as a fork of Uniswap. However, the organisation has set itself apart, offering both a governance token, known as SUSHI, and liquidity mining. This has led to a move in liquidity from Uniswap to SushiSwap, which in turn led to a sharp spike in liquidity. SushiSwap was founded in 2020 by an anonymous group or individual known as Chef Nomi, with the founding team copying the open-source code used by Uniswap. The SUSHI token is fundamental to maintaining and operating the SushiSwap protocol, and those holding the token have voting rights on governance decisions, and the possibility to earn a portion of fees generated on the network by staking tokens in the xSUSHI pool.
